SPRING BARLEY

The technological line for soil cultivation after previous harvest to the establishment of spring barley crop provides three operations. Spring barley should be grown in brown earth, black earth or clayey soils with a sufficient supply of water and nutrients during spring. Root crop is the best catch crop for spring barley.

1. DEEP TILLAGE

TERRALAND DO

In autumn, the field should be cultivated in depth after sugar beet harvest using a combined chisel plough because the soil is quite hardened by the heavy machinery. The large discs with a diameter of 690×6 mm perfectly cut the beet tops. The chisel plough tines work in depth where they can disrupt the hardened soil parts, and loosen and aerate soil. The combination of large discs and chisels provides a trouble-free incorporation of large quantities of organic matter into soil.

EXCELLENT PROCESSING OF BEET TOPS

Large discs with a diameter of 690×6 mm.

Sugar beet leaves a lot of crop residue in the field – beet tops which are a great source of nitrogen. This increases the risk of damage to the barley that can lodge during growth. The large serrated discs cut the beet tops into small parts and mix them with soil perfectly. It accelerates decomposition of organic matter and minimizes the risk of lodging.

DISRUPTION OF HARDENED LAYERS AND LOOSENING

Active-Mix Tines.

Active-Mix tines are recommended for use in autumn to incorporate organic matter, loosen soil and disrupt hardened layers in order to increase water permeability from higher soil layers to the lower ones. The specially-designed tines will perform such operation in high quality, cheaply and timely.

CLOD CRUMBLING AND SURFACE CLOSURE

Rear Spiked Roller.

The double-row rear spiked rollers contribute to disrupting and crumbling larger clods that freeze better in winter or dry faster in spring. The spiked rollers also contribute to levelling and compacting the cultivated surface.

2. SEEDBED PREPARATION

SWIFTER SO_F

Quality seedbed preparation is a prerequisite for creating conditions to achieve the required yield. We recommend processing soil in a depth of 2-3 cm. A firm subsoil with sufficient moisture and loosened topsoil need to be prepared for barley seeds.

PRECISE SOIL LEVELLING

Crushbar Leveller.

The hydraulically adjustable Crushbar leveller is a popular gear for compactors. However, if you have performed in-depth soil cultivation, we recommend putting the leveller out of work, or setting a small working angle. The soil is nicely flattened after cultivation and after winter, so it does not need levelling. You will save up to 1 litre of Diesel per hectare.

SECTION IDEAL FOR SPRING BARLEY

Gamma-Point Section.

The four rows of gamma points work at a negative angle. The gamma points aerate and warm up soil without the risk of bringing wet particles to the surface, preserving winter moisture. It is important for a fast start of the growth of spring barley.

CLOD CRUMBLING

Double-Row Rear Crosskill Rollers.

Crosskill rollers guarantee a well-prepared field with a minimum amount of clods. Smaller clods on the soil surface protect soil from evaporation and water drainage, for example, in the case of sudden rain storms.

3. CROP ESTABLISHMENT

EFECTA CE

Spring barley should be planted as early as possible in spring. When establishing crop, it is essential to avoid “seed soiling”, which results in lower yield. Barley can be seeded in combination with PROFI coulters that ensure sufficient warming up and aeration of top layers of the soil profile.

SEEDING AND FERTILIZER APPLICATION

Double-Chamber Pressurized Hopper.

Instead of all-area application, the required batch of nitrogen can be applied in a targeted manner during seeding thanks to the double-chamber pressurized hopper of the seed drill. It enables seeding the crop together with inter-row fertilizer application in one pass, or mixing seeds with fertilizer in the dispensing piping. The fertilizer dosing and the selected seeding amount are completely independent of one another.

EXCELLENT SEED PLACEMENT

A Precisely Designed Drill Coulter.

The double-disc seed drill with an offset disc creates a clean and prepared groove for an even seed placement. There is either a standard, or carbide scraper between both discs. The seeds are then covered with fine soil and pressed down into the soil by the depth wheel.
